BRINDLEYPLACE

Brindleyplace is centred on Old Turn Junction at the hub of the 18th century British canal network built by James Brindley, and is a large area containing many large businesses, the ICC, the NIA, the Ikon Art Gallery, the National Sea Life Centre, many bars and restaurants, and public art works. It is broken up into several beautiful squares including Oozells Square pictured left.

DID YOU KNOW...
The International Convention Centre stands on the site of Bingley Hall, built about 1760. In 1849 the grounds were used as a
temporary exhibition of Birmingham manufacturing and it’s wares. One of the visitors was Prince Albert, Queen Victoria’s Husband. He was so impressed it is said, that the experience inspired his creation of the Great Exhibition of 1851. A permanent exhibition hall was erected in 1850 and stood on the site till 1984, when it mysteriously burnt down.
